Statement/motivation of why I am applying for Secretary General
I have been an ISSM member since 1998. I have served the ISSM in a number of different capacities including: ISSM List manager, member of the ISSM PE Guidelines Committee in 2010, member of the Pharmacotherapy of Erectile Dysfunction Committee at the Consultation Meetings (2009 and 2015). I served as a member of ISSM Expert Panel Meeting on Hypogonadism in 2014. I served as chairman of the ISSM Public Policy Committee (2016-2018). I also have regularly been a member of Scientific Committees for several ISSM Meetings including the upcoming one in 2021. I am also currently a member of ISSM Consultation and Guidelines Committee
I have been the founder and the 1st president of the Middle East Society for Sexual Medicine. Currently, I am the chairman of the scientific committee for the 2021 MESSM meeting.
Sexual medicine problems differ from one place to another due to different traditions and customs. Serving the ISSM allows me to complete the role of the society as an international one getting feedback and sharing sexual health problems in different areas of the world.
It can be particularly challenging to practice sexual medicine in the Middle East. However, the region needs qualified sexual medicine specialists to debunk many myths concerning sexuality and sexual health, in addition to the day-to-day practice of this specialty.
One of the main aims of the ISSM is to benefit the public by encouraging the highest standards of practice, education and research in the field of human sexuality all over the world. Diversity in the ISSM board being an international society will definitely be an acid to achieve fully its goals.
I am very much motivated to apply for the position of secretary general which was never before represented by a member from the Middle East and Africa. My previous experience practicing sexual medicine in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and as a founder and past president of the MESSM can help me greatly together with my long experience working in different ISSM facilities.
