The South Asian Society for Sexual Medicine (SASSM) held its 4th Biennial Congress from November 22 – 25, 2019 in the garden city of Bangalore, India. Attended by 672 delegates, it was the first four-day meeting of sexual medicine on the subcontinent.
The program included a pre-congress cadaveric workshop, a psychosexual medicine workshop, a sexual dysfunction clinical management symposium, and male infertility sessions.
Over 95 participants attended a cadaveric penile implant workshop, and 72 urologists had hands-on experience with 3-piece inflatable penile prosthesis implantation.
Dr. Juan Ignacio Martinez-Salamanca, Dr. Ignacio Moncada, Dr. Giulio Garaffa, and Dr. Annamaria Giraldi made the event an academic feast by their presence and crisp and concise deliberations.
The hallmark of the event was the first joint symposium by the International Society for Sexual Medicine (ISSM) and the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM).
During the congress, a consensus guidelines meeting of 30 senior experts from South Asia was held. The guidelines panel was chaired by Dr. Vasan S S and Dr. Rupin Shah.
After extensive deliberations, index case guidelines for the management of erectile dysfunction (ED) and premature ejaculation were developed to enable the primary physician to manage the problems in the subcontinent, which are unique due to their cultural complexity.
The main conference was scientifically very well received, and the SASSM wishes to acknowledge the ISSM and the ESSM for their support.
