Andrea Salonia, MD, PhD, FECSM, is stepping down from The Journal of Sexual Medicine after five years of dedicated service as a Deputy Editor-in-Chief. Dr. Salonia has been an outstanding addition to our journal and he will be greatly missed.
Dr. Salonia is a urologist in the Academic Unit of Urology and the current Director of the Urological Research Institute at IRCCS Ospedale San Raffaele, in Milan, Italy. Dr. Salonia is also a Full Professor of Urology at the University of Vita-Salute San Raffaele. Dr. Salonia earned his medical degree at the University of the Milan School of Medicine. He completed his residency in urology at the University of Trieste, in Trieste, Italy, and his residency in endocrinology at the University of Vita-Salute San Raffaele, in Milan, Italy. Dr. Salonia also earned his doctoral degree in Clinical and Experimental Biotechnology in Urology at Magna Graecia University, in Catanzaro, Italy.
In addition to his clinical duties, Dr. Salonia has coauthored over 400 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters. His research interests include various urological areas but with a specific focus on pathophysiology, diagnosis and management of men and women’s sexual dysfunctions, male reproduction, bladder, and prostate cancer. In addition to his position at JSM, Dr. Salonia has held positions in the scientific committee of the European Society for Sexual Medicine (ESSM), the World Association for Sexual Health (WAS), the Italian Society of Andrology (SIA) and the Italian Society of Urology (SIU). He currently acts as the Chairman of the panel on Male sexual and reproductive health of the European Association of Urology Guidelines, an editorial board member of European Urology and a senior board member of Scientific Reports.
